Katie Richards, a farm worker for us, gives a bottle to one
of the boys who thinks he's still a baby.
Paige, our daughter, stands next to 4 week old Eli (AKA Fuzzy
Butt according to Paige). Abu & Eli have found a forever
home at Select Suri Partners. Abu
was healthy, but Eli had some health issues we are tending to.

When we first got this Bactrian Camel, we were nervous
that we may have bitten off more than we could chew! His previous
experiences with humans had left him scared, mean and wild.
You can see for yourself what a little time and care, plus a
lot of love can do for animals of any size and background. |

Sydney and Mongo are both Camel baby
rescues on the ranch. Sydney is a mostly white Dromedary camel,
and Mongo is a Bactrian camel (very rare).
Note from Rob:
The top row of pictures above were taken on the days we
took delivery of each camel from their previous owner/broker.
Sydney (our white Dromedary) was 18 days old and all bones.
His fiber conceals his boney starved frame. Sydney was
so thin you could place your fingers between
his ribs!
His ex-owner was too lazy or too cheap (maybe both) to
give him more than just a few pints of lambs milk per
day. In just under 2 weeks at the Select
Suri Ranch, he had gained 26 lbs.
from 16 pints per day of lambs milk, unrestricted quality
hay, and our own grain mixture with Selenium and Vitamin
E. He also enjoys his free salt !
He has now been with us for several years, gained 1200
lbs. and just loves to be loved. This guy will never forget
his rough start with negligent, uncaring owners. He will
also never forget us, because he has a forever home here
at Select Suri Partners! |
